I reinstalled the app on my tablet. It connected to the app store but then lost connectivity while I was playing. At the time it was loading up my events which I lost when I reinstalled so I suspect that this is where the problem is. I hope this helps you isolate the problem. It's getting very frustrating!!

We’re sorry to hear that some of you are still experiencing issues connecting the game to the App Store. Rest assured, we’ve reported this back to the studio, and they’re actively investigating the issue. We’re committed to getting this resolved as soon as possible!
