Hi there @dm1 and good day to you.
Have you tried the tip suggested by @MandyP123 cos it works for me too sometimes? The internet connection is usually related to Facebook or sometimes the game server. Thus, you may try it by turning off and on the internet connection on your device without exiting the game.
Also, please read this article to get some info about this issue.

For some players, Bake a cake event is having a connection problem presently. Community manager reported news from the Studio: we'll get the fix in the next game update (version 1.187) which will be released in approximately 2 weeks. Unfortunately we can only wait for now, I'm really sorry.

as I said, I am new to this and believe it or not don't know how to reply to all the responses I have received lol. I thank everyone for there help and will give them a go. I am playing on a samsung android tablet. Again thanks for everyone's help.

I'm just waiting for the update.
Because all the talk about the fact that I have no Internet is nonsense.
I see the team adding points to the team quest. I see my opponents going through the levels in the episode race.
But I do NOT see the results in the Bake a Cake quest.
It looks funny guys. And it looks stupid.

Ok, here is some good news.
- *Got v1.187.400.0 Modified 2/19/2021, today for *Win 10 Pro PC - Desktop App!
For *Android, think v. 1.187.4 has been released for them. Our *Soda Game Expert @Pitty_Kitty has more info on it.
So should be able to play *Bake A Cake now, if you have these devices & the update for it.
- Remember, only if *Olivia the Octopus, has her Arms / Tentacles wrapped around the *Team Logo, only then do you have the *Bake A Cake feature in *Soda Squad Teams! All other messages can be ignored!
- Olivia the Octopus has her Tentacles wrapped around the Team Logo, only then do you have the Bake A Cake feature in Soda Squad Teams - CCSS - Origins7 Dale
Notice also @LadyRaffie, that the *Piggy Bank Logo is still on top of *Store Icon / App. So can't use until after the *Episode Race/s is over. It is still not fixed.

Just finished up on the 45 New Levels Released today 2/19/2021. So decided to see if this *Update works on the *Bake A Cake. The answer is *No!
This is the *Small Cake, did the 1st Level on the 1st Tier, got no credit for doing it, only the message we had before. Screenshot below. Also, it was a *Frosting Level, had to use *Boosters to finish it. So why is a difficult level doing here on the 1st level of the cake?
So teammates stay away from it. Perhaps on *Mon. 22nd, when our CM @LadyRaffie is back, we will have more details. On why we were told this version is the fix for it, but it is not.
Getting tiring, all these losses, but no *Rewards, no fix.
On the *Android Update v. 1.187.4, need to ask @Pitty_Kitty if that worked or not. I don't use *Mobile / Phone on gaming.

So this time the cake appeared and disappeared this morning within minutes. It did not even show "connection errors" like last time. Just a quick peek-a-boo. Thought I'd share this
This is Android Samsung a20e. I couldn't check w10 on laptop.
